Hair and Makeup Challenge
In the past couple of years, I have been
through switching from one life to the next.
I have been changing from a
defeated high school girl to a focused business woman. I am not completely
changed into this person I just listed but I am in pursuit of her. There are many things I have given up,
smoking is one of them, and there are many things that I have acquired, fitness
being one. Through out my years so far,
I have had a mix of good and bad habits.
One good habit was fixing myself up every day, if I was going somewhere
or doing something I would “get ready” to go out. More recently this habit has faltered and I do
not do this anymore. In a result, I feel
that getting into this habit again will improve my life. Both inside and out. My 30-day challenge is to completely put on
make-up and do my hair everyday. In
pursue of this 30-day challenge, I hope to achieve a better me.
I was never one of those girls in
high school that woke up in the morning, took a shower, and then went straight
to fixing my hair and make-up for an hour or so. The most I ever did was throw my hair into a
ponytail and throw on eyeliner with some mascara. As I got older, I learned what foundation and
moisturizer was. This knowledge did not
progress until I went out into the world and with a full-time job.
When I started my job with Marriott,
shortly after I failed my first year in college, I was so excited. I would do my face everyday I worked. I would play around with everything. Moisturizer,
foundation, concealer, lip liner, eye liner, eye shadow, you name it I would
try it out. This started my
transformation from girl to woman. I
would wake up in the morning, get myself dressed, fix my hair, and then spend
time on my face. I loved it. I was getting into the routine of
appreciating myself. Soon after I got
into the routine of fixing up myself for work, I started to do it for fun! On my days off, I would just play around with
exotic colors and different ways to do my eyeliner. I would get compliments on it all the time. As time went on, I fell into a time in my
life that changed everything.
A time came where I fell into
depression. I had just gotten out of a
long relationship and was currently in an abusive one at the time. I was in a fog. You don’t realize you are depressed until you
come out of it, crawling and fighting.
For me, it was a state of mind. It
was a place in my life where I was not moving forward and not moving backwards. I was at a stand still. I had dreams and goals, and yet I was doing
the same things everyday, every week, and it seemed to go on forever. During
months of depression, I didn’t do anything.
I became lazy. It affected the way I looked at myself and how
I was doing in my work life. You never
realize how something affects your life until it happens. I was less motivated at work. I was lazy on
my days off. I didn’t do anything unless
I felt I had to. As I came out of depression, after breaking up with the
abusive boyfriend, I made moves to better my life. I went out more. I would go out with friends again, go dancing
and to shows. I started to become more
active. I started hiking or running
everyday after work. I made the move to
Colorado. My dream state. It isn’t
enough to completely heal me of the damage from being depressed.
As time went on I was improving my life
on the outside but not inside me. Inside,
I still feel at a stand still. I show
motivation but do not always feel it. I
continue to find myself being lazy, not doing anything when I am by myself. I am looking for a way to get out of this
lazy and unmotivated self-inside of me. I
feel my future career could be at stake due to this limbo.
At the beginning of this year I had
an interview at my job for a higher position.
I did my hair up and completely did my face. I received so many compliments from so many
people that I see everyday. It felt good. I was happy with how I looked. I didn’t feel like a fat, clumsy cow, which
sat around doing the minimal things in life.
It was amazing. On a normal day
of work, I wake up and get dressed.
Done! I don’t spend anytime on myself and definitely not on my hair or
face. This isn’t because I don’t have the
time; I am just out of habit and lazy. I
don’t take pride in myself anymore. And
it shows in my work and at my work.
People notice when you take pride in yourself and when you put in an
effort to try everyday. Even if it is
only doing your hair and make-up for a day, people notice the effort you put
into it.
With this 30day challenge, I hope to
become a better me. Putting on makeup
and fixing my hair everyday should become a consistent habit. It will bring up my spirits as a woman. It will help me feel happier about
myself. The habit and the outcome should
leak into my work life and social life as a positive. It will show I do care about myself, which
will in turn show that I care about the other aspects of my life as well. I believe I will be able to complete this
30day challenge all the way through. I
will be able to do my makeup and hair every day. I can and will succeed in this and it will be
a better me at the end.
