Artist Statement

My digital story is a story about family and how much family means to me.  I start off in the short script telling everyone that I come from a large family.  I explain the family members I am very close to and I tell how my father and I are not close.  I used pictures of my family to show how close I am to all of them.  I used one picture of my father to represent the space between us.  Throughout the beginning of the script and first half of the digital story I chose music that was in a low key and had a solemn tone to it.  This was to reflect the feelings I was trying to portray with the pictures used.

The two pictures I used to represent when I said the words 'sad' and 'depressed' were both chosen due to the "darkness" of them.  One of them is of myself and I am standing alone near water.  This picture was actually taken on a very happy day in my life but was edited in such a way that the picture is able to play the role of 'depression' or 'sadness'.  My fiance is the one who edited it and the edit took out most of the prominent color.  My second photo I chose for representation is of me and a cat that has past away.  Again, not a sad time in my life but the way the photo is edited makes it dark.  I personally edited this photo with the original intensions to make my cat stand out.  But, in this project is plays the purpose of representing negative feelings that I was experiencing in my story.

About halfway through the video, my tone changes.  My voice changes to a higher tone.  The music is switched to a more upbeat and higher pitch than the music before.  This is to represent the changes in my life and where I am happy with how everything turned out.  To show more of this change I put in pictures of just myself when I was facing the camera and smiling.  I also, near the end of the digital story, I put two pictures of my family.  One when we were all together before all of the moves and the second one of us all together after all of the moves.  We are happy in both of them.  But, I chose to show both to show that no matter what happens my family is the most important part of my life.
